Caught a cosplayer rant at Anime NYC about dub vs sub and it got heated

Was walking past the autograph area at Anime NYC last Saturday and this guy in a full AoT cosplay was going off about how subs are the only real way to watch. A girl in a Miku wig fired back about dubs helping her get into anime when she was 12. Crowd split down the middle, someone literally pulled out their phone to look up voice actor credits. Has anyone else seen these debates get that loud in person, or was it just the convention energy doing its thing?
