Adding more shredded paper to my compost bin stopped the smell.

Noticed this works with a lot of household smells, honestly. Like how baking soda in the fridge soaks up weird food odors, or how adding dry leaves to a wet, smelly garden bin fixes it. It's all about balancing wet and dry stuff. Michael_craig is right about watching what paper you use though, because some inks or coatings just don't break down and you end up with little plastic bits in your compost. I mean, it's the same idea as not throwing a greasy pizza box straight into recycling.

Try adding junk mail too.

Skip junk mail, @taylor.paige. It often has plastic or ink that won't break down right. Use plain paper instead to avoid messing things up.
