Bokashi bin leaked black liquid all over my kitchen floor, worth fixing or trash it?

Last Tuesday I woke up to a puddle of dark, sour-smelling liquid under my bokashi bin in my DC apartment. The spigot had cracked overnight, probably from the pressure of too much liquid buildup. I only had it for 6 months, and I was following the 2 week drain schedule, but it still gave out. I mopped it up with vinegar and baking soda, then moved the whole thing to my bathtub to see if the crack could be sealed. Duct tape held for a day but then it dripped again. Now I'm stuck deciding between buying a replacement bin for $45 or going back to a simple 5 gallon bucket with a lid and drilling my own drain hole. The bucket route is cheaper but I like the airtight seal the bokashi bin gives for smell control. Has anyone else had a spigot fail this way, and did you patch it successfully or just switch setups?

Did the smell actually stay locked in with the original bin, or was that just wishful thinking on your part?
