My planing project went haywire thanks to a hidden knot

Hidden knots in wood are the worst for throwing off a planer. That kind of hidden flaw messes things up in all sorts of areas, not just woodworking. It's like a small tear in a bag that splits open when you least expect it. Life is full of these little weak spots that only show themselves under stress. You see it with old wires causing a short or a single bad part breaking a whole machine. It just proves how a tiny, unseen thing can wreck your whole day without warning.

Update: Met an old classmate who has no memory of our science fair win, but I still have the ribbon.

Read an article once about how holding old stuff works better than photos for memories. Like that ribbon probably smells like gym floor glue and brings back the whole day. My buddy found his little league glove and said he could suddenly feel the pocket and hear his coach. Makes sense why your mom kept that gross recorder too.

My strange find at a roadside diner's secret menu

Honestly, your brain just needs a minute to catch up with your taste buds. I always tell myself it's just food and the shock will wear off after a few bites. Once you get past that initial weirdness, some of those mixes become your favorite finds.

Adding a second step to my logins made hacking much harder.

Ugh, people hate feeling locked out of their own stuff.

Showerthought: Skipping sleep to finish jobs hurts more than helps

Ugh I feel this... my trick is to read the whole thing backwards, sentence by sentence. It forces your brain to see the words instead of what you meant to write. Or sometimes I use text to speech and listen for weird parts.
