Greasy party scraps are making me rethink my compost ethics

After a big get-together, my friend handed me a bag of food scraps for my compost. Now I'm stuck because some bits have oily dressing, and I heard that can make things stinky in a small bin. Should I just add it and hope for the best, or is it better to say no next time?

Rethinking your compost ethics over some greasy scraps? That seems over the top. Oily dressing might smell a bit, but it's organic waste. It'll break down eventually. Just toss it in and don't stress. Worst case, your bin gets a little funky for a week.

My friend's bin got overrun with pests from oily leftovers.

Is it really that big of a deal? @dianag87's friend had pests, but that's probably a rare case. Just mix the scraps in with plenty of dry stuff like leaves and it'll be fine.
