I was ready to give up on my worm bin because of the smell

For about two months, my little indoor setup was just funky. It wasn't a full-on stink, but a sour, off smell every time I lifted the lid. I was adding my kitchen scraps like clockwork, mostly veggie ends and coffee grounds, but it was always too wet. I read online to add more 'browns,' so I tore up some cardboard, but it didn't really fix it. What finally clicked was when a friend who keeps worms said, 'You're probably not burying the food deep enough.' So last week, I started making a proper pocket in the bedding, dumping the scraps in, and covering them with at least two inches of the damp newspaper strips. After three days, the smell was totally gone. I just open it now and it smells like fresh dirt. Has anyone else found that the burying technique was the real game-changer for them?

Oh totally, burying the food is the key! I had the same wet, sour mess until I started making sure every bit of food was under a good blanket of bedding. It keeps the fruit flies out and lets everything break down without getting nasty.
