My freezer bin got so gross I had to choose between a $9 charcoal filter and just burying the whole thing in dirt
Last month my countertop bin started smelling like a dead raccoon, so I had two choices: buy a $9 charcoal filter pack off Amazon or go full caveman and dump the whole bucket into a planter on my fire escape. I picked the filter because my neighbor in 4B already yelled at me about the flies, and honestly it worked within about 2 days. But here's the dumb part, I forgot to swap it out after 8 weeks and the smell came back worse than before, like old coffee and wet cardboard mixed together. The filter was the right call but nobody told me it's a monthly thing, not a one and done. So yeah, I'm now the person who sets a phone reminder to change a tiny sponge of carbon, and my fire escape planter stays empty. How often are you all swapping yours, cause I feel like I'm doing it wrong already?
