Had to pick between a landlord's ancient dryer and a new one

Got a call to fix a 20 year old dryer that the landlord refused to replace. Spent 2 hours on it before realizing the drum was bent and it was a lost cause. Told the landlord straight up, and he finally agreed to buy a new one. Anyone else deal with landlords who think old appliances are immortal?

Drove me crazy for months with my old dishwasher that kept flooding. Landlords act like if an appliance still turns on, it's fine forever. They don't think about the energy waste or the fact you're spending hours of your life dealing with a machine that should have been retired a decade ago. It's like they think we owe some kind of loyalty to these rusted out pieces of junk. Ever notice how they'll spend money on a new fancy front door but won't touch a leaking water heater until it explodes?

@evan295 nailed it. The front door thing is pure landlord logic-they want something that looks good for curb appeal but won't touch stuff that actually affects your daily life. My last place had a furnace that sounded like a dying lawnmower for three winters before they finally replaced it. And the dishwasher cycle took four hours to do a load, but hey, it still ran. They don't get that old appliances cost you more in utility bills and time than a new one would. It's like they think paying for repairs is a favor to us, not their job. By the time they admit something is broken, you've already wasted months dealing with garbage.
