Had a $0 spending day last Tuesday and it felt weirdly good

Small wins add up though, a free day is still a win.

Dropped $80 on a new clipper and it paid for itself in 2 weeks

Hold up, are we really acting like dropping clippers on concrete is some kind of durability benchmark? I mean, sure, Andis Masters are tough, but most decent clippers can survive a drop or two without crapping out. My cheap Wahl clippers from Target took a fall off the bathroom counter last month and they're still buzzing fine. I'm not saying your clippers aren't good, but let's not pretend a few drops prove they're built Ford tough or anything. What's the real test after like three years of daily use in a busy shop?

Stumbled on a stat that 80% of business happens through referrals in Detroit

Yeah but here's the thing nobody's really talking about - that 80% stat probably includes a bunch of ghost referrals where people just mention a business name but never actually follow up. I've been in Detroit networking groups for like 3 years now and half the time someone says "I'll refer you to my guy" they just forget about it the next day. The real trick isn't getting people to say they'll refer you, it's making it stupid easy for them to do it. Like I started sending people a quick text with a link to my Google page and the response rate went way up. So the stat might be real but it only works if the referrals actually happen, not just get talked about.

Debate: Eyeballing star positions vs using an app to find deep sky objects

Using an app is just a modern star chart, not cheating at all. Those old paper charts and setting circles were just the tech of their day, and nobody back then complained about using them. Maybe the real loss is just the romantic idea of stumbling onto things, but you're still out there looking up and learning the sky either way.

Rant: My venus flytrap disaster in the kitchen window

Yeah I had the exact same problem with my first Venus flytrap. What finally worked for me was just using rainwater from a bucket I left outside, total game changer. I also stopped fertilizing it completely and just let it catch its own bugs in the summer. The roots bounced back after about a month of consistent distilled waterings. It's wild how picky these plants are about water but once you figure that out everything else is pretty easy.
