My 2 month old washer flooded a customer's laundry room on a Friday, do you eat the cost or bill them?
This happened last Friday in Cedar Park, I replaced the inlet valve on a top loader and the hose clamp wasn't seated right, water everywhere by the time I got back from my van. I mopped it up, told the homeowner straight, and ate the $180 for a new baseboard and some drywall patching. Half the guys I know say a repair is never a guarantee and water damage is on the homeowner, the other half say we're the pros and we eat it. I keep going back and forth on whether paying it quietly made me look honest or just careless. What's your rule when your own work causes damage, fix it free or hand it to your insurance?
