Tried to fix a dryer that was taking too long and made things way worse

I was at a rental house in Oak Park last Saturday trying to fix a dryer that was taking 3 cycles to dry a load. I replaced the heating element and the thermal fuse but somehow managed to strip the wire connectors so bad they wouldn't stay attached. Has anyone else had a simple fix snowball into a bigger headache like that?

Did you try cleaning out the lint trap housing and the exhaust vent while you had it apart? That was my main issue when I had the same problem - the vent was clogged with years of lint. I also found it helps to run the dryer on a shorter cycle first, then check the clothes instead of just setting it for the max time. Saved me a good bit on my electric bill too.

Did you pull the dryer away from the wall to check the hose kinks too?
