My aunt in Savannah taught me the real secret to her cornbread

My buddy learned that "batter should sizzle" thing the hard way. He used a cold pan for his cornbread and the whole bottom was just pale and gummy. Now he heats his skillet like his life depends on it.

Pro tip: I keep seeing people strip the tiny screws on old Nikon F2s because they use the wrong size driver.

Ugh, learned that the hard way. Stripped a carb screw on my old Honda.

Trying to get a perfect platinum blonde on a client with old box dye took me way longer than I thought

Sounds like a lot of work for a hair color. Is getting platinum that important if it risks wrecking your hair for months? I see people chasing these perfect shades and it just seems like a hassle. All those products and sessions add up to a big bill too. Maybe some hair just isn't meant to be that light.

Wasted a full day and $300 on a 'moisture meter' that was basically a toy

Man, my first moisture meter was a $50 thing from a hardware store... it was about as useful as a chocolate teapot. I get where @tylermurray is coming from, but when the glue fails you gotta blame the wet slab, not the glue.

That week my writing group turned a bad prompt into a whole book idea

Yeah, the part about a bad prompt giving you more to work with than ten good ones is dead on. The prompts that make you argue with them are always the most productive. My rule is to never dismiss a prompt until you've asked yourself why it bothers you. That friction is where the real idea is hiding.
