My climbing line failed inspection after 14 months and I almost missed it
I was doing my usual pre-climb check on my Blaze line in the driveway in Fayetteville and running my hand down the rope felt something fuzzy about 30 feet in. Turned out there was a nick in the cover from a limb stub I brushed on a removal six weeks earlier, and it had spread way more than I expected. I retired the line right there and ate the $140 for a new one, because no way was I going up 60 feet on a compromised rope. Now I check the whole length on the ground instead of just the ends, and I have been thinking about how many guys only glance at theirs. How often are you all running a full hand-over-hand on your climb lines, not just the working end?
