Found a Roman coin in my garden last spring - got me hooked on metal detecting
I used to just mow over the same patch of yard (you know, thinking there's nothing there) until a friend let me borrow his Garrett detector for a weekend. I pulled up a 3rd century bronze nummus from under 6 inches of soil near the old oak tree - now I'm out there every Saturday scanning the whole property. Has anyone else found something unexpected in their own backyard that got them into a new hobby?

Found four Washington quarters from the 1960s under my porch steps last fall... made me wonder what else is sitting right under our noses. It's funny how we walk over the same ground every day without thinking about what's buried down there. That little taste of history really changes how you see your own property...

Well isn't that just what a guy wants to hear - 1960s quarters while I'm out here digging up 3rd century relics! Now every glimpse of silver in the dirt has me thinking it's something special when it's probably just pocket change from the Reagan years.
