My museum tour guide changed how I see Bronze Age tools

I went to the Field Museum in Chicago last week and got pulled into a docent's talk about a display case of old bronze axes. He said most people think these were weapons or farming gear, but he argued they were probably status symbols first, like fancy watches. He pointed out that many show almost no wear marks, so they were never actually used for chopping or digging. That hit me different because I always pictured ancient folks as purely practical, no room for showing off. Now I catch myself wondering how many other artifacts we misread as functional when they were really about clout. Does anyone else get stuck on the idea that ancient people valued style over use?
