inPro tip: I swapped my $30 store-bought weed killer for a vinegar and dish soap mix last spring
I hear you on the vinegar thing being harsh, but I gotta push back a little. Not all homemade mixes are the same, and your neighbor might have used way too strong of a ratio or left it on too long. I've been using a simple mix of vinegar, salt, and a drop of dish soap for years on poison ivy patches in my yard, and it works fine without burning me. The trick is to spray it on a calm day and wash your skin off with soap if any gets on you. Commercial stuff is effective, but it's also full of chemicals that stick around in the soil longer than I'd like. So if someone's careful with the homemade version, I think it's a solid choice.

inUsed to haul groceries from Dave's Market in plastic bags that ripped every time, now I bring my own canvas totes
I started with those canvas totes too, but after my third one got a hole from carrying a jar of pickles (the jar survived but the bag didn't), I upgraded to a beat-up old army duffle I found at a garage sale for two bucks. That thing has hauled 40 pounds of potatoes, a case of soda, and even a small watermelon without breaking a sweat. Now I keep it in my trunk year-round, and honestly, it's saved me from at least a dozen embarrassing sidewalk egg explosions. If you really want to level up, grab a milk crate from behind the store (they usually toss them) and strap it to a folding cart, then you can roll your groceries up Detroit Ave like a king.

inWhy nobody tells you about the free parking placard for invisible disabilities
I'm curious about the whole guilt thing you both mentioned, did either of you have a moment where you just decided you had to stop caring what people think? Because I see that guilt come up over and over in these conversations but nobody really talks about how to actually get past it. It seems like doctors gatekeep hard enough without us also gatekeeping ourselves.

inFinally realized I was cutting my grass too short after a neighbor walked over and asked why my lawn looked like a desert
I read this thing from the University of New Hampshire extension service that said cool season grasses like we have here actually stop growing roots when you cut them below 2 inches. So basically I was stunting my lawn for years without knowing it. The article said taller grass shades the soil and keeps moisture in during heat waves like the one you mentioned. I switched to 3.5 inches this year and my yard is way greener even when it doesn't rain for a week. Plus I don't have to water as much so my bill went down a little. The old guy was right about 3 inches being the sweet spot for our area.

inWhy does nobody mention that networking event tip about parking validation?
Nah, $28 is just the tax for not networking hard enough.
