Spent 4 hours at a dig site in Tucson last Saturday labeling bags before I realized the site grid was off by a whole meter
Had to re-bag and re-tag 60 bagged finds by hand while the sun went down, and nobody on the crew noticed until I checked the datum point against the field notebook twice, so how do you all catch grid errors before the bags get sealed?
Wait, so you're telling me the whole crew just trusted the grid without ever double checking the datum? Man, that sounds like a bad dream, except you were awake and sweating. Four hours of bagging and then you get to do it all over again by hand as the sun drops, that is just cruel. How does nobody else catch that until you check the notebook twice? Where I come from, if one thing is off by a meter, that's a whole different hole and a whole lot of nothing. Next time make somebody else verify the datum before the first bag even gets a tag.
