Rant: A new guy on the site asked me why I was checking the load chart for the third time

Read a story once about a crane that tipped because someone misread the chart for a different boom length. The math was right but for the wrong setup. Your story about the decimal point is the same kind of quiet mistake. That apprentice learned more in those five minutes than in a week of just watching. The old guys are right, that book is all that stands between a good day and a news story.

Update: I finally switched from a 6-inch riser to an 8-inch on our main pour line after a spill last week.

Hold on... bigger risers just hide a flow problem you should fix at the source. That extra diameter is a band-aid for bad gating or poor metal quality. You're adding more hot metal in the system that can cool wrong and cause other issues. I've seen shops chase bigger risers and end up with worse shrinkage because the thermal mass is in the wrong spot. My go-to is always to tune the sprue and runners first before just making everything bigger.

Had a client ask for a 'sunset balayage' and brought in a picture of a literal sunset from Arizona

My cousin brought in a picture of her pet lizard for a color match. The real challenge is translating that kind of texture and light into something for hair. You managed to pull it off with a sunset, which is honestly impressive.

Everyone says to use vinegar for cleaning your coffee maker. I tried it and my coffee tasted awful for a month.

Ugh, same thing happened to me! I had to run so much plain water through mine to finally get rid of that nasty taste.

Had a customer bring in a 2003 Civic with a misfire that turned into a full engine teardown

Classic Honda move right there. Go in for a spark plug and come out needing a whole new block. It's like they know you're already under the hood and decide to just give up entirely. Found a whole connecting rod in the pan of an Accord once on what was supposed to be a valve cover gasket. That job got real expensive real fast.
