That dig near Santa Fe where I almost donated a femur to science by accident

Went down to a volunteer excavation outside Santa Fe last month, just to see what community digs are about. I was brushing dirt off what looked like a rib bone, getting all excited, and the site lead comes over and goes, 'That's a cow bone from the 1980s, we had a cookout here.' Turns out the whole layer I was so careful with was just old BBQ trash buried under a few inches of sand. The actual ruin was 40 feet east of us and I spent 4 hours cleaning up someone's discarded picnic. Has anyone else misread modern junk as ancient artifacts on a dig, or am I the only one who got fooled by a T-bone?
