The same tomb in Turkey looked totally different in 2015 vs 2023, and I want to know if this is normal
I visited a Roman era rock cut tomb outside Antakya, Turkey in 2015 and then again this past spring, and the change really bothered me. Back in 2015 the interior walls still had faint red paint traces and the floor was buried under about two feet of dirt and rubble. By 2023 the dirt was gone down to bare bedrock and the painted plaster had flaked off in big patches. I asked a local site guard and he said it was partly exposure after a cleaning project and partly moisture from people breathing inside it all day. Nobody I have asked can tell me if that much loss in 8 years is typical or if something went wrong with how they cleaned it. Has anyone here seen a site change that fast from just visitor traffic and air alone?
