Update: I stopped trusting pottery shard dates after a dig near Tucson last month
I used to just write down whatever depth the shards came out of, but after finding a 900-year-old piece sitting right next to a 1950s bottle cap in the same layer, I switched to bagging everything by exact grid square and noting the soil color, so has anyone else had a site where the layers got all mixed up like that?
