My mom's old cast iron skillet from a garage sale does better than anything I've bought new. Got a fancy nonstick set last year and the coating started peeling within months. The cast iron just keeps going, no matter how bad I treat it. Something about cooking on a pan that's older than me makes the food taste better too. There's probably a lesson in there about buying stuff that lasts.
