My cast iron skillet cracked and I think the whole "it lasts forever" thing needs a caveat
I put my 12 inch Lodge on a hot campfire grate near Bend last month and heard a pop after about 10 minutes, and sure enough there was a hairline crack running right through the middle. Everyone keeps saying cast iron is bulletproof and you can pass it to your grandkids, but nobody mentions that sudden heat swings and thin old pans can just give up on you. I'm not buying a new one yet, so has anyone actually cooked on a cracked skillet without it splitting in half, or is it done for good?
