Granite State advice from a diner waitress changed my moving plans

I was grabbing coffee at the Windmill Diner in Derry last month, killing time before a house viewing. The waitress overheard me stressing about commute times and just said, "Honey, nobody here drives fast, so add 15 minutes to whatever Google tells you." She was so right, I nearly missed the open house because I trusted the map instead of her. Anyone else get surprisingly solid local tips from random staff at small spots?

Random staff giving directions is how you end up at a dead end in a swamp. Google is annoying sometimes, sure, but at least it updates. That waitress told you to add 15 minutes because SHE drives slow (sorry, but it's true). Half the people in any diner are regulars who haven't left town in 20 years, so their "shortcut" is a road that washed out in 2009. Trust the app that tracks live traffic over someone who's just guessing from their own habits.
