Honestly thought the 'ask anything' rule meant you could just post random stuff
Tbh, I was posting general life questions here for a while, like about my car. Then a mod told me the point is to ask about the process of asking itself, like how to phrase things better. So last Tuesday, I tried it by asking 'What's a good way to ask for a pay raise without sounding pushy?' Ngl, the advice I got was way more useful than I expected. Has anyone else found a specific type of question that works really well here?

Oh man, my friend had a similar lightbulb moment! He kept asking online how to get his noisy neighbors to quiet down, just complaining. Someone told him to ask for scripts on how to start a polite talk with them. He got this simple three-sentence opener that focused on his own sensitivity to sound, not their blame. He said it worked way better than his old angry notes. Asking for the actual words to use changed the game for him.

So you got good advice on asking for a raise, but what was the actual tip that helped you most?

The best advice was to stop asking for a raise based on my needs. Instead, I made a short list of my recent wins and how they helped the company save money. Framing it around the value I added changed the whole talk.
