Hot take: spending 4 hours on a simple DNS change is ridiculous

I was setting up a subdomain for a client site last Tuesday and it took me forever to figure out why it wouldn't resolve. Everyone online says to just wait 24-48 hours for propagation but that's not always the issue. Turned out my registrar had a hidden A record from years ago that was overriding my new CNAME. Spent 3 hours digging through old settings before I found it. Anyone else run into phantom records like that?

Yeah TTL overrides are always the sneaky culprit in those old panels.

Wait, TTL overrides in the old panels? Those things are ancient. I had no idea they even had that feature built in. I always figured those old boards were just dumb switches and wires, no smarts at all. That sounds like such a headache to track down. Like, you'd be chasing a ghost, thinking it's a wiring fault. Honestly, that explains so many frustrating service calls I've heard about. Crazy how those little settings hide in plain sight for years.
