My brother swore by that $8 phone screen trick from the mall kiosk and I told him he was nuts
So back in March my brother cracked his iPhone screen and instead of paying $150 at the place in the mall he found some kiosk guy in the parking lot of the Northgate Target who said he could fix it for $8 using some glue kit he had in a tackle box. I told him he was throwing money away and that the glass would pop off within a week, and honestly I felt kind of smug about it. Fast forward almost four months and that screen is still on there, no bubbles, touch works fine, and the guy even texted him a week later to check on it. Meanwhile I paid $130 at a "real" shop in November and mine has a dead spot in the corner that they won't cover. I still think the kiosk thing is a gamble and I wouldn't do it on a newer phone, but I owe my brother a real apology and maybe lunch. Has anyone else had a sketchy-looking cheap fix actually hold up, or did mine just get lucky?
That "tackle box" detail got me because a buddy of mine had a screen swapped by a guy working out of his trunk for like $20 and it lasted him two years. Your mileage may vary of course, but I've seen the cheap fix surprise people more than once. Still wouldn't risk it on a brand new phone though.
