Shoutout to that random guy at Home Depot who fixed my sprinkler issue

He told me to just replace the solenoid instead of digging up the whole valve box. Took me 15 minutes and saved $80 on a plumber. Anyone else get solid advice from a stranger in the hardware aisle?

Home Depot aisle advisors are the unsung heroes of the modern world. I once had a guy explain to me why my toilet was running constantly while I was just standing there holding a flapper like an idiot. He pointed at the fill valve and said, "That's your problem, not the flapper," and walked off. I felt like a fool for not seeing it myself, but hey, $15 part later and I was a plumbing genius for a day. Now I just wander the hardware store looking lost on purpose hoping another expert will find me.

Used to think those aisle guys were just bored retirees trying to butt into my business, honestly. But then I was staring at a dead string trimmer, no clue what was wrong, and some dude just walked over and said "check the carburetor jet, it's probably clogged." I didn't even ask for help. He was right. Fixed it with a paperclip and some cleaner. Now I totally get the strategy of looking lost on purpose, I might try that next time I need to fix my garage door opener. Those random tips have saved me way more than any YouTube video.
