Shoutout to the $3 pack of bamboo skewers that fixed my BBQ thermometer problem
I could not hold my digital thermometer probe steady over the grill grate without burning my knuckles, so I bent a coat hanger into a stand and it kept tipping over into the coals every single time. Then I poked two bamboo skewers into the grass next to the grill and rested the probe wire between them, and it held rock steady for the whole 6 hour brisket cook on Saturday. What household junk have you turned into a grill tool because the real accessory costs way too much?
Who needs a fancy probe holder when you've got a couple of sticks and some grass? That's the kind of fix I can get behind, costs basically nothing and works better than the store version. My go to is a folded up piece of foil with a notch pinched into it for the probe, sits right on the grate and doesn't budge. Bamboo skewers are a solid move though since they don't get hot at the top. Six hours steady is no joke, that brisket earned its rest.
