The mechanic in Reno told me to skip the fuel additive and just drive it hard once a week
So about 8 months ago my old Tacoma started running rough and a guy at a shop off Wells Ave in Reno told me not to buy any of the $12 bottles at the counter, just take it out on the highway and run it hard for 20 minutes once a week. I figured he was brushing me off but I tried it anyway and the rough idle cleared up in about 3 weeks. Turns out my trips to the grocery store 4 blocks away were never getting the engine warm enough to burn off carbon. Now I'm wondering what else I've been throwing money at that just needs a different habit, has anyone else had a mechanic talk them out of a product like that?
