Unpopular opinion: the 'just ask' advice at the Milwaukee airport gate counter backfired on me
I got stuck at the Milwaukee airport last month when my flight got moved, so I walked up to the gate counter and asked the agent if there was any way onto the earlier plane. She flat out told me the system shows it full, then later I watched her hand a seat to a guy who never asked a single question. So does 'just ask' really work, or is it more about who you ask and when?
Timing matters way more than the ask. Gate agents hand out seats when something opens up last minute like a no show or a missed connection, and if you already bugged them once they might not think to flag you.
Next time hang back near the desk and watch for them typing a lot, that's usually when a seat frees up. Also being nice and chill goes a long way, they remember the jerks.
