Spent 2 hours debugging a missing semicolon in JavaScript

I was staring at my code for what felt like forever. Console kept throwing an error but I skimmed right past the line. My buddy looked over my shoulder for 5 seconds and pointed at line 47. Felt dumb but now I slow down and actually read each line before running it. Anyone else do this more than they'd like to admit?

Honestly, I used to just scoop flour right from the bag and my cakes were always a bit off. Last month, I got a cheap $15 kitchen scale and started weighing everything in grams. The first cake I made after that, a simple vanilla one, came out perfectly flat and even. It turns out my 'cup' of flour was almost 30 grams heavier than the recipe called for. A week of rust repair on a '72 Chevelle that reminded me why I got into this

Last fall, a guy brought in his grandpa's old Chevelle from Tucson, and the rockers were almost gone. We spent four full days just cutting and fitting new metal, no shortcuts. What made it stand out was the owner, an older guy, who just sat and watched us work, telling stories about the car. He didn't care about the bill, he just wanted it done right. It was a nice change from the usual insurance rush jobs. Anyone else have a customer lately who really appreciated the craft over just getting it out the door?

Changed my mind about cleaning shutter blades after a job in Seattle

I was fixing a Pentax K1000 for a client up there, and I used my usual method with a soft brush. The owner, an older guy who used to work at a camera factory, watched me and said, 'You'll just push the dust into the bearings.' He showed me his trick with a piece of drafting tape folded sticky-side out to lift the dust off instead. I tried it and it worked way better, no grit left behind. Anyone else have a better way to clean those tiny blades without taking the whole assembly apart?

I found this in a research paper from a university in Oregon. They tracked over 200 people who started a new journal system. The study said 68% of them stopped using it within 90 days. That really got me thinking. I've been at it for about two years now, but I remember that three-month mark being tough. You're past the new, fun part and into the real work of keeping it up. It made me look back at my own old journals. Sure enough, my entries from April of that first year are pretty spotty. What do you think makes or breaks that early habit? Is it the setup, or just life getting in the way?

Struggling with a tricky miter on a built-in bookcase, I tried a trick with blue tape and a marking knife.

I was fitting a 22.5 degree return on a painted unit and the test pieces kept showing a hairline gap. My buddy in Seattle said to apply tape across the joint line, mark your cut directly on the tape, and then peel it to cut. Has anyone else found a better method for perfect painted miters?

I put a whole pork shoulder on my Weber kettle for 14 hours and it came out like pulled pork candy

I was messing around with a snake method setup and used a mix of hickory and apple wood chunks, aiming for 250 degrees but it ran a bit hot at 275 for most of the cook. The bark set up way darker and crispier than I thought it would, almost like a sweet, smoky candy shell. Has anyone else had their fire run hotter than planned but ended up loving the result?

My worm bin hit 5 pounds of finished compost this month

I started with a basic Urban Worm Bag in my studio last fall, and I just weighed the finished stuff from the bottom tray. Hitting that 5 pound mark felt huge because it means my system is finally balanced and I'm not just generating scraps. I had a real issue with fruit flies back in March, but adding more shredded cardboard fixed it. Anyone else track their output, or is that just me being extra?

Hot take: I chose a Japanese pull saw over a standard back saw for some tricky dovetails.

The thinner kerf gave me way more control on the small pine box I was building last month. Anyone have a favorite brand for hardwoods like maple?
