Swapped my phone astro shots for a $40 used DSLR, night and day difference

I used to just point my phone at the sky and hope for the best, but last month I picked up an old Canon from a pawn shop in Portland. The detail in the Orion Nebula is insane compared to those blurry little dots I used to get. Has anyone else made the jump from phone to a real camera for deep sky stuff, or is this just me being hooked now?
