Thought the guy selling meteorite slices on Etsy was a total scammer until I checked the Widmanstatten lines myself
Bought a 4 gram slice of the Seymchan pallasite for $38 back in March, mostly to prove the seller was faking it. Took it to the local astronomy club meetup in Boise and Dale pulled out his 10x loupe, then we both just stared at the lines for a while. The pattern was too clean and too regular to fake, and the olivine crystals sat right where the reference photos said they should. Now I can't decide if my gut was wrong or if I just got lucky with the one honest seller on there. Anyone here ever test a bought meteorite slice, and did yours pass the loupe check?
Guess the Etsy scammers are getting lazy, letting actual meteorites slip through the cracks. Sounds like you found the one honest needle in a haystack of fake space rocks.
