I thought the HOA fee was a total waste until last month

Everyone in our subdivision kept complaining about the $150 annual fee, and I was right there with them. But then our retention pond started flooding after that 3-inch rainstorm, and the HOA had a contractor out within 48 hours to fix the drain line. Has anyone else actually seen their dues pay off in an unexpected way?

We had a similar thing with our pool filter breaking in the middle of summer. The HOA had it replaced in three days, which was way faster than I could've gotten a contractor myself. Made me rethink the whole fee thing for sure.

Right? That's exactly what happened to us with our community playground. The old wooden set was a hazard, splinters everywhere, and the HOA had a new metal one installed in like a week. I was floored. I've priced playground equipment before and the quotes were insane. Plus finding someone to install it right? Forget it. The fees suck sometimes but you don't really see where they go until something breaks and then it's like, oh, that's where my money went. Saved me a ton of headache and probably a few thousand bucks easy.
