Just realized I was mowing my grass the same direction for 3 years straight

Moved to a place in Kennesaw back in 2021 and every Saturday I mowed in the same loop pattern, never thought twice about it. Last month my neighbor Mike leaned over the fence and asked why my lawn had those faint stripes going the wrong way. Turns out mowing the same direction every time packs the soil down and makes the grass lean one way, plus it stresses the blades unevenly. I switched to alternating directions each week and also dropped the mower deck half an inch, and my fescue looks way thicker now after just 4 cuts. Who knew something so basic could make such a difference? Anyone else been doing yard chores on autopilot and then found out there was a better way?
