Rant: Used to just hire any lawn service, now I check for insurance first

Last summer a crew's mower threw a rock through my neighbor's window and they just drove off. Now I ask every company for their liability proof before they even start the first cut. Anyone else had a contractor bail on damage?

Oh man, that sucks. A buddy of mine had a landscaping crew back a truck into his mailbox and just peel out like nothing happened. He had to chase them down the street on foot just to get their plate number. Now he makes them park on the street and walk tools in, plus he checks insurance first.

Walked straight into a similar mess with my neighbor's fence guy. @jamiekim, your buddy is smarter than me. I just assumed the guy was legit because he had a branded truck. Turns out his insurance was expired by four months. Now I ALWAYS ask for their COI before they even unload a shovel. Lesson learned the hard way.
