Looking through some old trade school notes from 2005 and found a price that made me laugh

I was cleaning out a box and found my old materials cost sheet from tech school in Cleveland. It listed a quart of single-stage urethane for $28. I checked our supplier's site today and the same basic product is $89. I know everything's gone up, but that jump still hits hard. What's the one old price you remember that just seems crazy now?

Remember when a full tank of gas felt like a minor expense instead of a major life choice? I found a receipt from 2008 in a jacket pocket, twenty bucks for over half a tank in my old truck. It felt like finding a note from a different world. Makes you wonder what we're paying for now that will seem just as wild in another fifteen years.

Honestly used to think inflation was just a boring word on the news. Finding an old receipt like that really makes it feel real and kind of personal. It's a solid reminder that the price of normal stuff can tell a bigger story.

Okay but that "note from a different world" feeling is kind of the point. We're always looking back with rose colored glasses. In 2008 people were freaking out about gas prices too, it just feels cheap now. Our brains are wired to forget the stress of the past. In fifteen years we'll look back at today's prices and feel the same way, it's just how time works.
