A 19 year old tech at my shop asked why I still use a timing light, and his reason for asking bugged me more than the question
He said his scan tool shows him everything, so I asked him what he does when the crank sensor lies, and when he went quiet I pulled out the light I've had since 1998 and showed him the mark on the balancer was 4 degrees off from what the computer claimed, which is why that Civic kept throwing a misfire code nobody could chase down.
