That old guy who corrected my dice roll at the cafe

Saw a forum post once about old dice nerds in Seattle doing the same thing. They called it the "open palm drop" and swore it cut cocked dice by half. Tried it myself and it actually cleaned up my rolls way more than I expected.

Pro tip: That "dream job" you applied for might not be what you think

Doesn't a little stress turn into a lot of stress if you ignore it long enough? I once thought a "little" credit card debt was fine until I realized I was paying for groceries with guilt. Now my normal is just trying to convince my heart to stop racing because I saw a work email after 5 PM.

The Orion Nebula photo trends are missing the Horsehead's real detail

Honestly, that reminds me of the time I tried shooting the California Nebula from my backyard and spent an hour dialing in the settings only to realize my tripod was slightly tilted the whole time. Had to redo everything the next night and the seeing was worse. But yeah, the flashy Orion shots are everywhere, people crank the saturation so high the stars look like neon signs. I had better luck with a 15 minute stack at ISO 800 on my Canon and a simple stretch in GIMP, kept the Horsehead visible without blowing out the background. Blair's right about dropping ISO, but even then you gotta be careful with the black point or the dark nebula just vanishes.

Is there a right way to use starting fluid on a cold Detroit Diesel?

You ever talk to a buddy named Mike who runs a fleet of old wreckers? He told me he had a 6-71 that just would NOT catch one morning up in northern Michigan, like 15 below with windchill. He figured one little shot wouldn't hurt and gave it a puff, motor fired up but immediately sounded like someone was beating it with a sledgehammer for about ten seconds. It ran fine after that, but he swore he'd never do it again because that noise scared the hell out of him.

That $180 forge burner setup nearly cost me my workshop...

Honestly, my buddy Mike said his cheap burner backfired so bad it blew the doors off his shed.
