Hit 500 timing belt jobs and it finally got me

Did the math last night going through my work orders from the past 8 years. 509 timing belt jobs total. I knew it was a lot but damn thats a number. Makes me think about all the interference engines I saved from being a pile of junk. Any other mechanics here keep track of stuff like that or am I just weird?

Read a study somewhere that said the average mechanic does maybe 200 timing belt jobs in a whole career. You're at 509 in 8 years which is INSANE honestly. Really makes you think about how many cars you saved from total engine destruction when those old belts snapped. That kind of consistency is rare in this trade with people jumping around to different shops all the time. Definitely not weird to track your numbers, it's good to appreciate your own work when nobody else will. Keep that log going, future you might want to look back on it.

509 timing belts in 8 years? Dude you're not weird, you're just proving that all the memes about mechanics having no social life are true. I mean who else sits down on a Friday night and counts their timing belt jobs for fun? But seriously that's a crazy number. You probably single-handedly kept Gates in business for a year. At this point you should get a plaque that says "I saved 509 engines and all I got was this lousy back pain." Just don't do the math on how many coolant hoses you've replaced too, that might push you over the edge.
