Old diesel mechanic told me to ignore the glow plug light, saved me $400

He said just bypass the harness and wire it direct, I figured he was messing with me. After 3 days of chasing a phantom intermittent no-start, I finally tried it and the truck fired right up. Anyone else had a weird fix that made zero sense until it actually worked?

...wait, he told you to bypass the harness entirely and you actually did it on a modern truck? Those glow plugs pull some serious amperage. I had a buddy do that once on an old Powerstroke and the wire melted right into the fuel line. Ended up with a way bigger bill than the $400 you saved. Though I get it, three days of no-start will make you try almost anything. Still, give that mechanic a beer, just don't let him near your wiring again.
