Old timer at the shop was right about torque sticks, I owe him one

Been using torque sticks for wheel work for 6 months now and was skeptical when this retired mechanic, Jim, told me to just trust the click and not jerk the gun. Last Tuesday I did a full brake job on a 2018 F-150 and used his method, checked with a manual torque wrench after and every lug was within 2 ft-lbs of spec. Before that I was always second guessing and over tightening, stripped a stud on a Honda Civic back in March because of it. Jim's advice cost me nothing and saved me from another comeback, those are never fun. Anyone else have an old timer give them a tip that seemed too simple to work?

Jim also swears by putting a dab of grease on lug threads, now my back doesn't hate me as much.
