Vent: I used brake cleaner to dry a MAF sensor and the truck ran worse for 2 days
I pulled the mass air flow sensor on a 2008 Silverado 1500 because it was throwing a lean code and I wanted to rule it out cheap. Instead of buying the right cleaner I grabbed the brake chlor from the shelf, gave it three quick sprays, and let it air dry like I do with everything else. Fired it up and the idle was hunting between 500 and 900 rpm, worse than before I touched it. Turns out the brake stuff left a film on the wire and the truck could not read air right for 48 miles until I swapped in a $22 cleaner and redid the job. Lesson was cheap but the two days of head scratching were not. What do you keep on the shelf for sensor jobs that will not eat the wire?
