Always figured the two page thing was fine since that's what everyone said in college. My resume was two full pages with every job I ever had on it, going back to a summer gig at a pool. Then a guy I know who hires people told me he spends about 6 seconds on each one and never scrolls past the first page. Cut mine to one page, kept only stuff from the last few years, and started getting real responses instead of silence. It stung a little to delete stuff I was proud of, but nobody was reading it anyway, so what was the point.

My buddy dealt with this exact thing last summer on his bench setup. Same deal, cheap riser from an old mining rig, and it would lock up maybe 15 minutes into any game test. He swore it was his CPU for a week until he finally tried the direct mount and everything was fine. Those cheap risers just can't handle the bandwidth once things warm up, the signal starts dropping and the card chokes.
