Vent: Spent $400 on a 'pro' scan tool that barely works

I bought a high end OBD2 scanner last month because my old one couldn't read ABS codes on newer cars. Turns out it's super picky about vehicle protocols and half the time it just says 'communication error'. Anyone else get burned by a pricey scanner that's more hassle than helpful?

Did you check if your car uses a newer CAN bus protocol that might be causing those errors?

My husband's old pickup had a similar issue after he tried to update the software himself. Turned out the connector was loose from all the bumpy roads on the farm. He spent two weekends taking the dashboard apart before figuring out it was just a simple plug that needed to be pushed in tighter. Sometimes modern cars just need a good old fashioned jiggle to get things working again.

Bought a $600 Autel that does the same garbage. Total regret.
