Just had a 737's entire entertainment system reboot during a pre-flight check in Dallas
I was running the final power-up sequence on a 737-800 at DFW yesterday, and the whole seatback system decided to do a full reboot cycle, complete with the startup jingle, right as the captain walked through. He just looked at me and said, 'Is it playing us a song?' I had to trace it back to a single faulty power supply module in the forward galley that was sending a weird voltage spike down the line. Anyone else had an IFE system throw a concert for no reason?

Ever think those seatback screens were just for movies? I used to see them as fancy extras until I watched a whole cabin's worth boot up during pushback once. Now I get how tied in they are to the plane's deeper systems. That weird power spike you found proves it's not just a glitchy TV. Makes you respect how much has to work right just for the simple stuff.

They're still just a fancy extra, just one that draws a lot of power.
