Old lead hand told me to tape the pins before pulling the rack, I laughed at him for 12 years

Last month in Houston I fried a $4,000 LRU because one loose pin shorted the backshell, and now I tape every connector like he said, so has anyone else had an old timer's habit that finally clicked after a costly repair?

You ever have one of those moments where you just stand there staring at the burned out board and hear the old guy's voice in your head? Same thing happened to me with dielectric grease on every plug. I thought it was a waste of time until a corroded pin cost me a weekend and a rental car. Now I don't even question it, I just do it.
