Three years ago in a hangar in Dallas, I spent an hour chasing a phantom static noise in a headset, only to find a forgotten bag of chips in the avionics bay.
The pilot had left a half-eaten bag of Fritos in the side pocket of his flight bag, and the crinkling foil was getting picked up by the mic cable every time the air conditioning kicked on.
