Warning: a loose cannon plug on a King Air cost us a whole day of troubleshooting
Last Thursday we chased a intermittent heading flag on a King Air 200 for six hours before I found a cannon plug behind the panel that wasn't fully seated. I always figured intermittent squawks meant a bad LRU, but a $0.30 connector pin was the real culprit. Anyone got a go-to trick for catching loose connectors before you start swapping boxes?
Wiggle test, plain and simple. Grab every connector you can reach and give it a little tug before you even touch a black box. Takes two minutes and saves you a whole day of chasing ghosts.
Grab every connector you can reach and give it a little tug" sounds good on paper but what about the ones buried behind the avionics rack where you can't even get a finger in there? @barbaraw16 do you pull the tray out first or just work blind with a mirror and a pick? I've had cannon plugs that felt tight but the pin wasn't clipped into the shell, so a wiggle did nothing until I pulled the whole plug apart. Curious how you handle that without tearing half the panel down.
